CCC Sprandi Polkowice is set to kick off series of Belgian and Dutch one-day races. First off – Dwars door West-Vlaanderen / Johan Museeuw Classics (4 marca, 1.1).
In the past, it was a short stage event, but since last year it’s been a one-day race. It’s 189 kilometers long and consists of 137-kilometer stretch that leads to 13-kilometer lap around Ichtegem, which will be done 4 times. The peloton will start the day in Nieuwpoort.
It’s a typical Belgian race, with multiple cobblestone sections and some short hills. Kemmelberg (at 73km mark) and Rodeberg (at 79km) are the longest, but Keiberg (11km from the finish line) and Catteberg (5,5km from the finish line) should be the crucial ones. They are located on a finishing circuit, so this is where the race could be decided.
Weather conditions may also play a role in the competition, since in Belgium, at this time of the year it’s often cold, windy, rainy or even snowy.
CCC Sprandi Polkowice have selected strong and fast lineup. Alan Banaszek, who finished 11th in Handzame Classic and 9th Danilith – Nokere Koerse, will join the team after travelling straight from track world championships, to which he had been intensively preparing. Frantisek Sisr also showed last year his potential to do well in races held in Benelux countries, taking 11th place in Danilith – Nokere Koerse and 10th in Ronde van Drenthe.
This kind a course suits strong and tall riders, such as Adrian Kurek, Kamil Gradek, Paweł Bernas and Jonas Koch, who can generate high power. Marko Kump is a pure sprinter, who doesn’t specialize in cobbles, but if it comes down to a mass finish, he will be one of the riders to watch.
Fans can follow the race „live” on Eurosport Player (from 15:40-18:00).
