Back-to-back victory for Sajnok in Mazovia

After winning the prologue, Szymon Sajnok claimed second consecutive victory in Mazovia Tour, and retained his yellow jersey.

Info: July 26th, stage 1, Kozienice – Kozienice, 165km

Course: five 33km flat laps

We were pacing and controlling the field throughout the entire day. We made sure that the breakaway is not too large, the escapees are not a GC threat and when the group went clear, we kept them within the reach – two time stage winner, Szymon Sajnok explained.

Despite riding in the front most of the stage, my teammates were still strong enough to lead me out in the final 5km. With few hundred meters to go Alan Banaszek decided to attack. Our rivals had to respond to that move and I just sat on their wheel. I tackled last 90 degree corner in 2nd place, but I gained a lot of momentum and overtook Grzegorz Stępniak before the line.

We race often in Poland against Alois Kankovsky, who was third today, and I’m happy to finally have outsprinted him.

Szymon Sajnok leads the overall standings, 8 seconds ahead of Stępniak and 10 ahead of Mathias Norsgaard. Tomorrow the riders will be racing around Grodzisk Mazowiecki, on a similar, flat course with multiple laps on the menu.
