Mateusz Komar (BDC MarcPol) won on Friday the sixth stage of the cycling race Bałtyk – Karkonosze, overtaking by 11 seconds the finishing at the head of the peloton Tomasz Smoleń (Bank BGŻ). Grzegorz Stępniak (CCC Polsat Polkowice) retained possession of the yellow jersey of the leader of Bank BGŻ.
The longest stage of this year’s edition of the traditional race, leading from Żary to Leśna was dominated by the actions on the part of three riders, who soon after the beginning jumped off the peloton. Mateusz Komar, Piotr Gawroński (CCC Polsat Polkowice) and Paweł Krzywania (Warmińsko-Mazurski KS) were leading for 160 kilometres, but in the final kilometres the growing weaker escapees started to be caught up with by the rushing peloton.
Out of the leading threesome only Komar maintained the rest of strength and he reached the finishing line on his own, reaching for the stage win. The quickest in the peloton was Tomasz Smoleń, and in the third position his team mate, Adam Wadecki (BDC MarcPol) finished again.
The competing along the route to Leśna did not bring about any changes in the classification. Stępniak still has a four-second lead over his friend from the CCC team Tomasz Kiendyś and eight seconds over the last year’s triumpher of BGŻ Proliga Łukasz Bodnar (Bank BGŻ).
The Friday stage was the last opportunity to show sprint skills. For Saturday the organizers have planned two difficult, mountainous stages – a time trial and a stretch from Kowary to Karpacz.
