Bałtyk-Karkonosze: Kiendyś wins stage 1 and becomes the leader

Tomasz Kiendyś (CCC Polsat Polkowice) became the winner of stage 1 of the 20th International Cycling Race Bałtyk – Karkonosze Tour.

During the 1st stage of the race the cyclists had a short distance to ride, whose length was only 105.5 kilometres and led in quite flat areas of Pobrzeże Szczecińskie, containing mainly Równina Gryficka. The riders started in Kołobrzeg and after covering the planned distance they finished in Gryfice.

After riding about 30 kilometres a group of five cyclists rode out of the peloton: Tomasz Kiendyś, Łukasz Bodnar (BGŻ Team), Kamil Gradek (GKS Cartusia Kartuzy), Dariusz Baranowski (BDC MarcPol Team) and Jarosław Rębiewski (KTK-Kalisz). The break-away riders working together harmoniously gained a significant lead and despite the reckless chase on the part of the peloton they managed to reach the finishing line in Gryfice maintaining a lead of 20 seconds over the peloton. The first one to finish from the group of escapees was the rider of the CCC Polsat Polkowice team, Tomasz Kiendyś, beating Łukasz Bodnar (BGŻ Team) and Kamil Gradek (GKS Cartusia Kartuzy).

Tomasz Kiendyś, by achieving the stage win, became also the leader of the race and he is going to enter the afternoon, 2nd stage of the race from Gryfice to Nowogard in the yellow jersey of the leader.
