Alan Banaszek secured his first podium of 2018 season, taking 2nd place in Visegrad 4 Bicycle Race- GP Slovakia.
Info: March 31st, Bratislava – Orechová Potôň, 158,7km
Our entire squad attacked with 10km into the race. That move broke the field apart and the breakaway, that was formed at that moment, held on until the finish – Alan Banaszek explained. – Everyone contributed and in the finale, with around 30km to go, we decided to push the pace. After few attempts, Kamil Gradek went clear, but got caught on the finishing circuit, on a race track, with 6km to go. Despite that effort he was still able to help me in the sprint. I launched it first, but Maciej Paterski jumped off my wheel to take the win. I’m not fully satisfied with the result, since I always go for the win, but my teammates were very strong and I could count on them all day. I want to thank them for that.
CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders made the race hard right from the get-go. Four of them pushed the pace early on, to form a strong, 12-man breakaway. It included Paweł Franczak, Alan Banaszek, Piotr Brożyna and Kamil Gradek. Frantisek Sisr and Mateusz Taciak were part of the shattered peloton, but the latter crashed and lost contact.
The first group kept increasing the gap over the chasers and high tempo caused few riders to get dropped. All representatives of the “orange squad” were up there though and they entered final 25km of racing with 1:45 lead.
Despite few late attempts, the breakaway stayed all together and it was all decided in a sprint on a race track. Alan Banaszek took 2nd place, as was bested only by Maciej Paterski. Rok Korosec rounded out the podium.
