Alan Banaszek claimed 6th place on stage 2 of Bałtyk Karkonosze Tour, won by Andriy Kulyk.
Info: Stage 2, May 18th, Goleniów – Chociwel, 165,9km
Robert Walther (Thuringen) made an early brave attempt, attacking solo and gaining 3 minutes of advantage. His journey in the front didn’t last long though. He was brought back in early, when peloton picked up the pace in the cross wind. Echelons were being formed and the field broke in few pieces. First group caught Walther, but later the tempo eased up and it was all together again.
German’s attempt was not the only solo move that day, as Jonas Orset (Ryska) also pulled away by himself. At one point he had 8-minute lead over the chasers, but they didn’t panic and neutralized his attack with 45km to go.
The final 40km of racing, held in most part on the finishing laps, were full of action and crashes (they didn’t involve CCC Sprandi Polkowice though). However, it was all decided in the bunch sprint, won by Andriy Kulyk (Kolss). Paweł Franczak (Team Hurom) finished 2nd and Grzegorz Stępniak 3rd (Wibatech 7r Fuji). Alan Banaszek arrived in 6th place, while Johim Ariesen (Metec – TKH) kept his overall lead.
