Alan Banaszek proved to be one of the fastest riders in the peloton of Bałtyk – Karkonosze Tour, finishing in 3rd on stage 4.
Info: Stage 4, May 20th, Kożuchów – Lubań, 145,6km
How it unfolded
After lively beginning, Michael Gannopolskij (Team Erdinger Alkoholfrei) and John Harris (CCB Velotooler) made the 2-man breakaway of the day and later gained around 10 minutes over the peloton.
The chase was started just in time, as the bunch first caught Harris and inside the final 20km also reeled in Gannopolskij. The finale was held on a 3-kilometer lap in Lubań, which was covered 7 times. It was quite tricky and demanding and broke the field in pieces.
Around 25-man group emerged in the front, with some sprinters and GC contenders. Among them were Alan Banaszek, Leszek Pluciński, Mateusz Taciak and Marcin Mrożek. The former made sure that the team is represented in the dangerous, downhill sprint for the win, finishing in 3rd place. He was bested only by Wibatech 7r Fuji duo, Sylwester Janiszewski and Marek Rutkiewicz.
Anriy Kulyk (Kolss) retained the overall lead, while Alan Banaszek will approach tomorrow’s uphill time trial as the leader of youth classification.
