Alan Banaszek won criterium O Złoty Pierścień Krakowa, which was held on the main square in Cracow. Be doing so, he became the first leader of Tour of Małopolska.
The results were not included towards the overall standings, but the winners were awarded with leader jerseys. The competition consisted of two stages. First typical criterium took place and 12 best riders advanced to the final round, elimination race. Alan Banaszek and Maciej Paterski both secured a spot in the decisive battle. The former collected the needed amount of points in the first part, when he pulled away alongside Andrzej Bartkiewicz, while the latter attacked later in the race and won the last lap.
There was two of us in the final, so we wanted to take advantage of that. Our plan was to send Maciej Paterski at the front of the group, so I could just safely sit in his wheel. When I was left by myself, with 4 laps to go, I decided to take off and to shatter the group even more. On the last circuit there was only me and Paweł Bernas and I was able to outsprint him – Alan Banaszek explained. – Criterium in Cracow is one of my favorite. We cyclists, don’t get too many opportunities to race in front of such a big audience, in such a beautiful place.
One could say, that criteriums have become one of my specialties, since I’ve already won three this season – here, before CCC Tour – Grody Piastowskie and Bałtyk – Karkonosze Tour.
