The third stage of Settimana Ciclistica Lombarda Bergamasca was won by an Italian Riccardo Ricco from the team of Ceramica Flaminia. Polish cyclists did very well: Przemysław Niemiec (Miche) was the 4th , Bartosz Huzarski (ISD-Neri) was the 8th and Tomasz Marczyński was the 13th . The stage ended with a climb and Ricco won after the finish in a group of six people. Earlier a 9-racer breakaway was eliminated 4 kilometres before the finish line. In the final stretch the Italian outraced his compatriots – Michele Scarponi (Androni Giocattoli – Diquigiovanni) and Matteo Carrara (Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team)- during the final climb. Przemysław Niemiec was fourth, Bartosz Huzarski was eighth with the same time as the winner.
Tomasz Marczyński (CCC Polsat Polkowice) did very well, too. In today’s stage he was thirteenth, 10 seconds adrift of the winner. In the same group as the Polish Champion from 2007 came Jarosław Dąbrowski (Amore & Vita – Conad) in the 15th place.
Michele Scarponi is still holding the leadership in the general classification of the race. Riccardo Ricco, the winner of the second stage, advanced to the second place, pushing Przemysław Niemiec to the 4th place. Tomasz Marczyński is 13th in GC, 1 min. 8 seconds adrift of the leader.
