The first stage of the Settimana Ciclistica Lombarda – Bergamasca race took place in the heavy rain on the route around Calcinato ( 6 rounds 21.1 km each). At the very beginning there was a successful breakaway of three cyclists from the peleton: Bartosz Huzarski (ISD-Neri) Michael Stevenson from Sweden (Sparebaken) and an Italian Manuele Caddeo (Zheroquadro Radenska).
The breakaway cyclists gained the advantage over the peleton very soon, at one moment it amounted to 6 minutes. In spite of the chase the leading threesome entered the last three kilometres with a safe advantage and the home straight decided about the victory. Bartosz Huzarski turned out to be the best, winning over the Swedish racer Stevenson and the Italian Caddeo. The peleton crossed the finish line 30 second later, and the fastest then was Roberto Ferrari. The best racer of CCC Polsat Polkowice Tomasz Repiński was the 17th.
The leader of stage 1 is still Michele Scarponi (Androni Diquigiovanni).
Tomasz Marczyński (CCC Polsat Polkowice) is the 15th in the general classification.
