It was very solid, but at the same time unlucky opener of Carpathian Couriers Race for CCC Sprandi Polkowice U23 riders. Michał Paluta nearly missed out on the podium, while two other “riders in orange” claimed top 15 places.
The opening prologue was held in Hungary, in the city of Veszprem. The stage event kicked off with a 3,3-kilometer prologue. It was an individual time trial and riders from the same team were rolling off the starting ramp one after another, with a 30 second gap.
Michał Paluta covered the course in 3:41, just 2 second slower than the winner, Hamish Schreurs (Klein Constantia) and finished 4th. Kamil Małecki set 8th best time, with 3:44 and Patryk Stosz spent only 1 second more on the road, taking 12th place. Bad luck interrupted Alan Banaszek and Piotr Brożyna in their performance.
They both crashed on the same, sharp corner. They tackled it at too high speed and slipped. That’s a pity, since they were also going strong and had a chance to get a good result here – sporting director of CCC Sprandi Polkowice, Tomasz Brożyna, said.
Tomorrow, the peloton will stay in Hungary, pedaling from Veszprem to Papa, through mostly flat terrain (150km).
