Patryk Stosz made the podium on the final stage of Carpathian Race. He claimed that spot after the successful breakaway and a chaotic finale.
Stosz, one of the most aggressive riders in this year’s edition of the race, was part of the large leading group. Also his teammate, Jakub Kaczmarek was present in the escape, alongside Brusselman, Jansen, Ariesen, Schipflinger, Berger, Brockhoff, Backofen, Kukrle, Vanderaerdem, van Gestel and Mertz. Their maximum advantage reached 1:30.
With 5km to go the gap was around 30 seconds, but it was enough to cross the line before the bunch. The finale was very dramatic with many riders hitting the ground. One of them was Jakub Kaczmarek and was eliminated from the sprint.
Remy Mertz (Color Code – Aquality Protect) was the one who took advantage of the hectic finish. He defeated Adriaan Janssen (Cyclingteam Jo Piels) and Patryk Stosz – the winner of the only KOM that day, 2nd in final King of the Mountains classification and the highest ranked CCC Sprandi Polkowice rider in the overall standings. He completed the race in 9th, 38 second behind the winner Tim Ariesen. Cyclingteam Jo Piels rider was also in the breakaway and just like Kaczmarek crashed, but he was able to overtake leader, Alvaro Cuadros (AWT-GreenWay) by 4 seconds in GC. Twan Brusselman (Cyclingteam Jo Piels) and Benjamin Brkic (Tirol Cycling Team) also stood on the podium.
CCC Sprandi Polkowice took 4th place in the teams classification.
