The first Polish stage race is ahead of the CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders – Szlakiem Bursztynowym – Hellena Tour (17-19 of April).
Hellena Tour is tailored mostly to sprinters and time-trialists. The stages are flat and in the previous years they would usually end in a bunch sprint. The general classification will be decided by the 14-kilometer time trial. Whoever is the strongest “against the clock” is most likely to win the entire race.
We have both – good sprinters and time trialists in our roster for that event. Grzegorz Stępniak and Eryk Latoń have claimed a stage victory in this race and want to repeat that this year too. Mateusz Taciak is one of the best specialists in the TT in Poland and Tomasz Kiendys was a part of the 4-man squad that won team time trial in Coppi e Bartali – Piotr Wadecki, DS of CCC Sprandi Polkowice said.
Besides Latoń, three other U23 riders made the lineup for Hellena Tour – Piotr Brożyna, Jakub Kaczmarek and Kamil Małecki (Patryk Stosz and Michał Paluta are racing in the Nations Cup in those days). The 24-year old Leszek Pluciński and the winner of criterium in Dzierżoniów, Łukasz Owsian will also participate.
All the best Polish teams, and some foreign (Dukla Praga, Puskinak, Cycling Team Friuli and RG OSC Cyclingteam) will take part in the stage event.
