Two riders who have just completed Giro d’Italia will be part of 8-man roster for Wyścig Szlakiem Walk Majora Hubala (2.1), which opens on May 31st.
This event, which honors Henryk „Hubal” Dobrzański, is ranked 2.1 on the UCI calendar. Thus, it’s the second most prestigious race in Poland, after Tour de Pologne which is part of UCI World Tour. Szlakiem Walk Majora Hubala will kick off with 39km city criterium in Kielce (20 laps, 1,9km each). Results of that prologue won’t be included in the general classification, but it will select first leaders of various classification.
Stage 1 will already be a crucial one, since there are 6 categorized climbs on the menu (five cat. 2 and cat. 1, at the finish). The last one will be located on Święty Krzyż, after 6 kilometers of climbing, at average 4%.
Second day of competition could be as important. It features morning individual time trial around Rawa Mazowiecka, which will definitely bring some changes in the general standings, and afternoon stage, which may also cause some stir among top favorites, due to relatively short distance (105km) and tired legs after race against the clock earlier. In addition, there are four cat. 2 climbs awaiting.
Penultimate stage will be an opportunity for sprinters, while the last one may be used by some top placed riders to gain seconds over their biggest opponents. The course is undulating and the finishing meters are uphill, so anything can happen. Battle for overall victory will last until the very end.
CCC Sprandi Polkowice has named very versatile and well-aligned lineup. It will be led by two riders who completed Giro d’Italia on Sunday – Maciej Paterski and Łukasz Owsian, as well as Jonas Koch, who twice finished in top 10 on Tour des Fjords stages. Good time trialists – Michał Paluta and Patryk Stosz, alongside with breakaway-minded Piotr Brożyna, Kamil Małecki and Marcin Mrozek have also been selected.
