Even though Tour of Oman (14-19.02) will be second stage race for the „orange squad”, for most of the riders from the 8-man lineup for this event, it will be a debut in 2017 season.
This year’s edition will consist of 6 stages. The first one, to Naseem Park should suit the sprinters. Afterwards the riders will face undulating terrain with 4 categorized hills, with the last one located just 5 kilometers from the finish. Stage 3 features a punchy, uphill finale in Quriyat, which may cause some time gaps. There could be few seconds for grabs also on stage 4, which includes some climbing and a flat finish, by the Ministry of Tourism. This is where Simone Ponzi took 4th last year.
Fifth day of racing will be the decisive one, in terms of overall standings. There is a mountain top finish to Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountain) on the menu. The final ascent is 5,7km long, at avg. 10,5% , and only the strongest climbers will take part in the battle for victory.
The competition in Oman will be wrapped with a sprinter stage.
8 “riders in orange” are headed to Oman. Two of them have already had a chance to test their legs this season, participating in Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana – Branislau Samoilau and Simone Ponzi. Aside from that duo, the team will be represented by Michał Paluta, Patryk Stosz, Jakub Kaczmarek, Adrian Kurek, Frantisek Sisr and Nikolay Mihaylov.
18 teams will take part in the race – 9 of them are UCI World Tour and 9 ProContinental squads.
