CCC Sprandi Polkowice will take part in the 100th edition of one of the cycling monuments – Ronde van Vlaanderen (April 3rd, 1.UWT).
We are very proud to be among 25 teams, which have been invited to compete in this race. It’s a legendary event and we will do our best to put on great performance – Piotr Wadecki, sporting director of CCC Sprandi Polkowice, said. – This year we decided not to apply for Giro d’Italia invitation and focus on prestigious one-day and weeklong races in the first part of the season. Our goal is to participate in the Tour de France one day and we believe that the only way to do it is to prove ourselves in the big races, such as Ronde van Vlaanderen. This season we have two confirmed invitations from ASO – Tour of Qatar and Tour of Oman – and we hope that that list will improve in the future .
25 teams will line-up in 2016 Ronde van Vlaanderen – all 18 UCI World Tour teams and 7 Professional Continental squads – aside from CCC Sprandi Polkowice, also Bora-Argon 18, Southeast, Direct Energie, Roompot, Wanty-Gobert i Topsport Vlaanderen.
Tour of Flanders, which first edition was held in 1913, is 256 kilometers long and is one of the hardest cycling events in the UCI calendar. It features numerous short, steep and cobblestone hills. Two CCC Sprandi Polkowice has experienced the toughness of the course – Jarosław Marycz and Simone Ponzi, who both participated on two occasions.
For the Polkowice-based team it’s another UCI World Tour invitation this season. So far the “orange squad” has also received wild cards to Tour of Poland, Tirreno-Adriatico and Milan-Sanremo. The team will inaugurate the 2016 season at the Dubai Tour and Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana (both kick off on February 2nd).
