CCC Sprandi Polkowice is set to kick off the 2018 season at Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana (31.01-4.02).
Spanish event consists of 5 stages. Two of them are crucial for the general classification – stage 3 and 4. This is when 30-kilometer team time trial and uphill finish in Cocentaina (5km long, avg. 7,8%, max. 17%) will take place. On the remaining days the course is undulating, but there shouldn’t be any time gaps at the line.
I believe we did everything in our power in the off-season to be ready for the first race of the year and we are looking forward to it. During our training camp in Calpe we trained a lot in the area where the race will be held. We did a recon of the key stages – in Cocentaina and the TTT to Calpe, so nothing will surprise us – Piotr Wadecki, sporting director of CCC Sprandi Polkowice explains.
In the winter we did some adjustments in positions on the time trial bikes, while conducting tests at the velodrome and the wind tunnel. We hope that it will be beneficial in the first race.
In Spain, Amaro Antunes will make his debut in orange colors. Portuguese, as well as Michal Schlegel and Jan Tratnik do well in the difficult terrain and should lead the squad. Since they will be competing for the first time in 2018, the race itself will verify who will be the main leader for GC.
Kamil Gradek, TT specialist, will pace our guys in the team effort, while Łukasz Owsian and Jonas Koch are expected to ride aggressively and look for their opportunities in the breaks. Marko Kump will test his legs on the flat and undulating stages. If nothing unexpected happens, he should get three chances to battle for top spots in the sprint.
The entire event will be broadcast live on Eurosport.
