CCC Sprandi Polkowice will inaugurate 2017 season racing in Spanish stage event, Volta la Comunitat Valenciana (2.1). For some riders it will be a debut in the orange colors.
After a long preparation for the season the riders are very eager to race. They miss the competition and want to know, what’s their form comparing to other teams – Piotr Wadecki, sport director of CCC Sprandi Polkowice, says. – The level of racing in Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana will be extremely high, since many UCI World Tour teams are going to send there their top lineups. Beginnings may be hard. We need some race kilometers, but we will definitely put up a fight and try to ride aggressively.
Since it’s our debut in 2017, there is no pressure on our riders result-wise, although claiming top places so early into the season, would help our squad mentally and tune up the team for next races.
We’re not going to pick one leader before the race. We will take it day-by-day and see how it all unfolds.
The Polkowice-based squad will take part in the 5-stage event with a strong roster. Maciej Paterski, Simone Ponzi, Felix Grossschartner, Jan Hirt, Łukasz Owsian, Branislau Samoilau, as well as new riders – Jan Tratnik and Marcin Białobłocki – have made the lineup.
The latter two, who are national champions in TT of their countries – Slovenia and Poland – from 2015, will play an important role in the opening stage, team time trial. It will be held on a undulating, 38km long route around Orhiuela.
On the second day of the competition the peloton will roll through the terrains which are well known to the CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders. They spent nearly 2 months at the training camp in Calpe, exploring the roads in that region. The start will be located in Alicante, the finish in Denia and there are five, cat. 3 KOMs on the way (last one 6km from the finish).
Stage 3 is also quite hilly, although the riders battling for the King of the Mountains jersey won’t be able to collect any points on that day. Sprint finish is the most possible option.
The race should be decided on stage 4, from Segorbe to Llucena. Four climbs (two cat. 2, one cat. 1 and 3) earlier in the stage will make a selection and tire legs before the mountain top finish (cat. 1). The bunch will say farewell to the race in Valencia, where classic sprinters will have their opportunity to shine.
The entire event will be broadcast by Eurosport 1.
After Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana the team will continue racing in Spain – in Vuelta Ciclista a la Región de Murcia (11.02) and Clasica de Almeria (12.02).
