After 7 years, Polkowice –based squad is returning to Malaysia to participate in 8-stage race, Le Tour de Langkawi (18-25.03, 2.HC).
Do not be fooled by the start list of this race. Even though there just two World Tour teams (Astana, Dimension Data), the quality of the field guarantee hard racing. For most Asian squads it’s the key event of the season, so their leaders will be prepared perfectly.
Especially sprinters will have plenty of opportunity to take home a stage win, since only in one you can ruled them out – in the queen stage with steady, but hard mountain top finish to Cameron Highlands, which is around 15km long, at avg. 3,7%. This is where Michal Schlegel and Łukasz Owsian will be the CCC Sprandi Polkowice men to watch.
On other days bunch sprint finish will be the most likely scenario and Alan Banaszek together with Marko Kump are both in the first row of favorites for those stages. Slovenian has proven in the past that he can do well in Asian races, since he has won 7 stages at Tour of Qinghai Lake (2015, 2016). Depending on who feels better on particular day, they will select the leader for the lead-out. Szymon Sajnok and Piotr Brożyna will make sure to form the best positioned “train” in the field.
