Davide Rebellin, who has never finished outside top 2 overall in the last three editions of Sibiu Tour, will lead the “orange squad” in this year’s race.
The experienced Italian knows the ins and outs of the race and the profiles of the stages suit him. He will be supported by two riders, who also performed well in this event. Two-time Belarus championships medalist Branislau Samoilau won the mountain stage to Paltinis and finished 4th overall two years ago, while Nikolay Mihaylov was 7th in GC last year and participated in the race three times.
Jakub Kaczmarek, Tomasz Kiedyś and Adrian Kurek made the roster as well.
The race will Kick off with a 2,3-kilometer prologue in Sibiu. Stage 1 will be also held around this city and will feature demanding climb inside the last 30 kilometers and a downhill finale. On the third day of racing the riders will take on the “queen stage”, which is 210 kilometers long and ends with a 15-kilometer climb (avg. 6%) that leads to the finish in Paltinis. There are also four smaller hills on the way.
In the previous years the area by the Balea lake was always on the race’s map, but on this occasion, for the first time, it will be the host of a time trial. 6,8 kilometers – all uphill with the average gradient of 6,18% – await the riders. The climb reaches 2040 meters above the sea level.
5-day event will be wrapped by an undulating stage on the circuit around Sibiu. GC changes may occur there too, since the last ascent is located 10 kilometers away from the line.
