CCC Sprandi Polkowice has received wild card invitation to Il Lombardia – the organizers of the race, RCS Sport, has announced. It will be second consecutive time for the “orange squad” competing in the Race of the Falling Leaves.
CCC Sprandi Polkowice has participated in the races organized by RCS Sport on many occasions. The team has Giro d’Italia, Tirreno-Adriatico, Mediolan-San Remo, Strade Bianche and Dubai Tour under its belt and last year it debuted on the Il Lombardia’s course.
Aside from the Polkowice-based team, all UCI World Tour and 7 Professional Continental squads will be racing on October 1st. The other 6 teams from the II division include Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec, Bardiani CSF, Dofidis, Gazprom-Rusvelo, Nippo-Vini Fantini and Wilier Triestina – Southeast.
Il Lombardia’s route suits classic riders, who are at their best on short and steep climbs. One of those riders is Davide Rebellin, who has gained a lot of experience in that race. Once he finished 2nd and he claimed four 5th places. He was also the team’s top finisher last year, when he took 30th.
RCS Sport has announced the list of invited teams to its two other Italian, one-day events as well – Milano-Torino (September 29th, 1.HC) and GranPiemonte (September 29th, 1.HC). The former has very demanding course with hard mountain top finish (5km long climb in the end). The latter is not as tough but the route is undulating enough to split the field apart.
