CCC team lineup for the Volta a Murcia race.

With a start in the Spanish race of Volta a Murcia (cat.2.1) the CCC Polsat Polkowice team is starting the cycling season of 2012.

On 3 and 4 March this year in the region of Murcia (Spain) a two-stage race is going to take place: Volta Ciclista a Murcia. At the starting line of the race there will be 133 riders from 19 teams, including 8 Spanish teams (among others Euskaltel-Eskadi, Movistar, CajaRural), 3 Dutch teams (Vacansolei, Rabobank and Project 1t4i), 2 teams from Germany (Netapp, NSP) as well as teams from Russia, Belgium, Portugal and Poland. In the lineups of the teams that entered the race we will see a lot of outstanding riders, among others Samuel Sanchez from Euskaltel, Jose Cobo and Ruben Plaza from Movistar and Robert Gesink from Rabobank.

The sporting director of CCC Polsat Polkowice, Piotr Wadecki appointed for the first start in the season a team of seven riders: Marek Rutkiewicz, Tomasz Kiendyś, Bartłomiej Matysiak, Dariusz Batek, Piotr Gawroński, Mateusz Taciak and Grzegorz Stępniak.

Looking at the training quality of each rider that is an optimal lineup for that race – said Piotr Wadecki. I am aware that the team is still in the process of getting prepared for the season, which this year have been started by us a bit later and the start in that very difficult (although only two days long) race will be only the appointed riders’ first attempt to present their abilities. The riders called for the race do not lack ambition and if only they have an opportunity, they will fight for the best possible places in that first start of the 2012 season.

During the first stage the riders will have quite a long stretch of the route to cover, almost 200 km in a difficult, mountainous area. Along the route of the stage as many as four climbs have been situated. The most difficult uphill stretch awaits right before the end of the race. In the 177th kilometre of the route the riders will climb Alto Collado Bermejo 1150 metres above sea level after which there is the downhill stretch to the finishing line in Alhama de Murcia.
On the second day of the race the riders will ride a distance of 12 kilometres as an individual time trial.

The programme of the race:

3 March 2012 (Saturday) – stage 1, Balneario de Archena – Sierra Espuna (Alhama de Murcia), 192.8 km
4 March 2012 (Sunday) – stage 2, Cash Europa (Murcia) – Gran via (Murcia), 12.3 km (individual time trial)
