Josef Cerny made his presence known in the interesting Belgian one-day race, Schaal Sels, which was a combination of road and cyclo cross cycling.
Race was carried out on unusual roads – unpaved, gravel, cobbled or even on grass. Due to that terrain, not only road cyclists took part in this event, but also cyclo cross riders. They had 194 kilometers to cover.
At the beginning of the race a breakaway of the day was formed and it included CCC Sprandi Polkowice representative – Josef Cerny. He and his fellow escapees were able to build 2-minute gap, before the peloton started the chase.
The attackers were not given too much space and got reeled in with 65km remaining. Soon after new attacks were being launched and new leading groups were being established. The situation up front was changing with every minute and at the end of the day it was Wout van Aert (Crelan – Vastgoedservice) who claimed the win after a solo move. He bested Timothy Dupont (Verandas Willems Cycling Team) and Stijn Steels (Topsport Vlaanderen – Baloise).
Josef Cerny was the only “rider in orange” who completed the race, taking 36th place.
