Cerny wins Tour de Rybnik, two “riders in orange” on the podium

After taking 1-2 in the Saturday’s Memoriał Stanisława Szozdy, also in Sunday’s Tour de Rybnik, CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders have dominated the podium. Josef Cerny claimed the win, and Adrian Honkisz made the top 3.

133-kilometer course was awaiting riders in Tour de Rybnik. It consisted of eleven 12,1-kilometer laps. Soon after the gun an 8-man group went away and it included two “riders in orange” – Adrian Honkisz and Josef Cerny. The escapees worked well together and stretched out their lead to over 3 minutes. It turned out to be decisive move, since the bunch, led most of the time by JBG-2 Professional MTB team, was unable to catch the escapees.

Aside from general classification of the race, also most active rider classification was carried out. Adrian Honkisz did very well in collecting points at intermediate sprint – won twice and in total gained 19 points, claiming the victory in that ranking.

With 3 laps to go Honkisz and Cerny decided to take off from the leading group. Only Błażej Janiaczek (Kolss-BDC) managed to follow them. They were extending their advantage and the trio could be certain to survive until the finish. Before the final circuit, CCC Sprandi Polkowice cyclists began their series of attacks. They tried one after another and after one of those accelerations Cerny created a gap. Since Czech is a good time trialist, he didn’t look over his shoulder. He was able to hold off Janiaczyk’s chase and take a solo win.

He arrived at the finish over 20 seconds ahead of Janiaczyk who was 2nd, and Honkisz who got 3rd.
