Paweł Franczak just missed out on a top 10 in stage 2 of Colombia Oro y Paz, which again was taken by Fernando Gaviria.
Info: Stage 2, February 7th, Palmira – Palmira, 183,4km
It was not an easy task to get into the breakaway of the day on stage 2. The leading group, that consisted of 6 men, was established after as many as 58km of racing. CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders didn’t make the cut, while Paweł Bernas had to deal with a puncture early on.
Peloton was making sure, that the escape is always within the reach and caught the attackers with 10km to go. It was all about sprinters teams from that point and “riders in orange” did a good job of battling for position for their leader, Paweł Franczak. Adrian Kurek, Polish champion jersey wearer, led the “orange train” in the finale, with three teammates in his wheel. Franczak was the last one and he opened the sprint from 12-13th position in the group, taking 11th place at the line.
Fernando Gaviria (Quick Step Floors) repeated his performance from stage 1, taking another win and retaining GC leader jersey. For the second consecutive time he outsprinted Juan Sebastian Molano (Manzana Postobon) and Matteo Malucelli (Androni – Sidermec – Bottecchia) was 3rd.
