Chrisitan Delle Stelle took 10th place in a bunch sprint finish at Munsterland Sparkasse Giro (1.HC). Tom Boonen (Etixx-Quick Step) claimed the victory.
The race was almost 180 kilometers long and consisted of three different laps – 2 x 54km, 1 x 57,5km i 3x 4,8k. First breakaway attempts began right after the gun and the leading group was formed at around 20 kilometer mark. The escape of the day didn’t include CCC Sprandi Polkowice. Those who managed to get in the 5-man break were Mike Terpstra, Fabian Schormair, Daniel Westmattelmann, Florian Nowak and Robert Kessler. They built up over 5-minute lead but their chances of outpacing the peloton were very small, due to high speed set by good teams, such as Etixx-Quick Step or Giant-Alpecin.
When the gap dropped to around 2 minutes, Bartłomiej Matysiak tried to bridge across. His move turned out to by unsuccessful though and he came back to the bunch.
In the final 40 kilometers, other teams joined to contribute to the chase and the escapees were reeled back in with 12 kilometers to go. Despite few late attacks, the race came down to a mass sprint from a very stretched group.
Italian from CCC Sprandi Polkowice, Chrisitan Delle Stelle managed to finish in 10th place, while Tom Boonen (Etixx-Quick Step) grabbed the win. He outsprinted Roy Jans (Wanty-Groupe Gobert) and Nikias Arndt (Team Giant – Alpecin). who took 2nd and 3rd respectively.
