Three CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders completed Energiewacht Dwars door Drenthe. The top “orange” finisher was Chrsitian Delle Stelle and the race was won by Manuel Belletti.
Just like the Saturday’s race Albert Achterhes Pet Ronde van Drenthe, Energiewacht Dwars door Drenthe was also held on the difficult course with lots of short, but steep climbs and cobblestone sections. In those conditions Dutch and Belgian riders felt the most comfortable on Saturday. 15 of them finished in the Top 20. They were also the favorites in the Sunday’s event.
10 runners launched an attack after around one hour of racing and created 1:30 lead. Later on the leading group expanded to 20 riders. CCC Sprandi Polkowice was not represented in the front so the “orange team” was forced to lead the chase.
The advantage of the escapees was brought down to under one minute, but the bunch was not able to close the gap completely. In the final 10km it shrank to 20 seconds and it turned out to be enough to determine the winner from the leading group.
Manuel Belletti (Southeast) claimed the victory. Barry Markus (Team LottoNL-Jumbo) and Michael Carbela (Cult Energy Pro Cycling) took 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Chrsitian Delle Stelle was 45th (28 seconds back). Jarosław Marycz crossed the line in 75th and Adrian Kurek 98th.
