Jan Tratnik claimed 9th place in UCI World Tour race, Eschborn-Frankfurt, won by Alexander Kristoff (UAE-Team Emirates).
Info: May 1st, Eschborn – Frankfurt am Main, 212,5km
Course: undulating (6 hills)
It was quite a lively race with multiple breakaway attempts. The main escape of the day did not go clear easily, and when it was finally formed it included 7 riders. CCC Sprandi Polkowice were not present in that group, turning their focus to the second part of the race.
The leading group opened a 5-minute lead, but got caught early, with still 60km to go. That sparked new attacks, but nothing significant went away. Amaro Antunes tried at one point to bridge across to the 8-man group up the road, but eventually he was brought back in.
All the attacks were neutralized and the winner came from 25-man main bunch. Jan Tratnik and Łukasz Owsian were both in the mix and Slovenian contested the sprint to take solid, 9th place.
Alexander Kristoff (UAE-Team Emirates) was the fastest in the finale, edging out Michael Matthews (Team Sunweb) and Oliver Naesen (AG2R La Mondiale).
