Grega Bole is one of the most successful riders on the CCC Sprandi Polkowice roster. He’s joined the team at the beginning of 2015 season and already delivered good results – he was 7th overall in the Dubai Tour.
Bole was born in the small Slovenian city, Jesenice (around 21 thousands inhabitants). Today he lives in even smaller town (population of 5 200), Bled. It’s a tourist destination by the Julian Alps. It’s located near the boarders with Austria and Italy.
He has started training cycling when he was 12 years old, although his first victory came at the age of only 6-7, when he won some small race for children. His other sport passion is hockey.
– My dad was a cycling coach at the local team, so riding a bike was always very natural to me. When I was 6 years old I began playing hockey and I continued to play it for the next 13 years. Later on I would put on the ice skates from time to time, but last year I had to stop for good. I was playing in Chicago and I injured cervical vertebrae. I decided to end my hockey “career” – Bole said.
Today, just like many other cyclists, he likes cross country skiing and trek in the mountains. When he’s resting he enjoys playing video games and in his free time he’s having fun with his two daughters – one is 2 years old and other one is 6 months old. The most beautiful place on earth for him are Maldives. His favorite cycling snack are Sneakers and rice cakes. When asked how would you describe himself as a cyclists he said – “I race like a lion”.
He made his first steps in the professional peleton in the Slovenian team, Adria Mobil in 2008. He drew attention of the management by winning Liege-Bastogne-Liege for U23 riders (2007). After one year he moved to Aeronautica Militare-Amica Chips. He raced there only for few months since the UCI suspended the team for financial problems.
– Branislau Samoilau was on that team too. I am very happy that today were can race together again, for CCC Sprandi Polkowice and we can reminisce about old times. I also had a chance to talk few times to other teammate Michał Gołaś, mostly during races. In terms of results it was a good year. I won Gp Nobili Rubinetterie and a stage of Vuelta Asturias – Slovenian added.
In the middle of the season he came back to Adria Mobil. In the next one he signed a deal with a ProTour team, Lampre – Farnese Vini.
– I have very good memories from that season, first in the pro peleton. I took the stage win in Critérium du Dauphiné after the sprint from the 50-man group. I also finished Tour de Pologne in 2nd overall and completed two Grand Tours – Vuelta a Espana and the biggest race in the world Tour de France.
He considers victory in GP Ouest France – Plouay in 2011 as his biggest success of his career. He claimed that win the same way as in Dauphiné, in a sprint. This year his goal is perform well in the UCI World Tour races, especially Milan – San Remo and Giro d’Italia. His biggest cycling dream is to win a stage in Tour de France and become a world champion.
