Get to know Jan Hirt…

Jan Hirt is a neo-pro with valuable experiance gained in the best U23 teams in the world – Etixx and Trek Continental Team. The 24-year old from Czech Republic will be a great addition for the CCC Sprandi Polkowice, escpecially in the mountains.

Jan Hirt was born and raised in the highland regions in Czech Republic. At first in the town called Trebic, and later in Moravske Budejovice. For the last 3 years he’s been living in Brno, the second biggest city in the country.

He was introduced to cycling and serious trainings when he was 14. – I wanted to ride a bike, because my brother was doing triathlon and I wanted to accompany him during the rides. I won my first race when I was 15. It was Czech National Cup race, with an uphill finish, in the city called Kyjov – Hirt says. – I also liked hockey, which I played for 7 years, before I started cycling. I decided to choose bike because it gave me more freedom– he adds. He hasn’t quit hockey completly. He still plays in the winter time and does other winter sports.

His nickname is Hirtak. It comes from his last name, but the word doesn’t mean anything. His favorite place on earth is every place with sunny weather, no traffic and where are good conditions for training. Before the race he likes to eat rice with parmesan and olive oil, and after the competition he enjoys big beef steak for dinner – medium/rare. His favorite snacks during the ride are fruits and nutty bars. His cycling specialty are long climbs and he doesn’t feel very comfortable in bunch is sprints.

Results and dreams

When he was a junior he won the Nations Cup race Gp Général Patton. As a u23 rider, while riding for Leopard – Trek Continental Team, he conquered the youth classification in Okolo Slovenska. He was also 2nd overall in Peace Race U23, 2nd in youth classification of Volta a Portugal em Bicicleta Liberty Seguros, 4th in Tour Alsace and 7th in 42nd Settimana Ciclistica Lombarda by Bergamasca (3rd in youth classification). In 2014, as a Etixx rider he won a stage in Czech Cycling Tour – But so far my biggest accomplishment is winning a stage of Tour d’Azerbaijan. It was my first victory after juniors category and that’s why it is so special to me.

Season 2015 will be his first, in the real professional peleton. This year he wants to concentrate on helping his teammate as much as possible. – I don’t know yet which races I will do exactly, but we have very nice race calendar with lots of hard, hilly races, in which I’d like to be strong.

His biggest cycling dream is to take part in the Grand Tour and win a stage.
