Gold for Dariusz Batek in MTB Marathon

Dariusz Batek CCC Polsat Polkowice won the gold medal in the Polish Championships MTB Marathon held in Dąbrowa Górnicza.

Men’s competition was very dynamic and had a dramatic finish. At the beginning R. Banach (HP-Sferis), Krzywy (Corratec Team) and Drożdż (JBG-2) rode out, and they had on the 25 kilometer 3 minutes advantage. This, however, did not allow them a lot, because behind them started strong attacks of favourites. Eventually a large group was formed, in which Wojciech Halejak (HP-Sferis), Dariusz Batek (CCC Polsat Polkowice) and Piotr Brzózka (JBG-2) rote out. However, Brzózka was eliminated in the final kilometers and the fight for gold was between Batek-Halejak.

On the long finish Halejak tried to attack. Batek was riding to a sharp bend on the inside and was trying to push. This caused that cyclists rode very close each other and Halejak fell. Batek arrived as the winner, but at the finish he didn’t even raised his hands up in a gesture of triumph.

– This is not a victory in the style of what I would like to win. Unfortunately, there was Wojtek’s fall. This victory didn’t satisfy me. As for the route I have to admit it was a lot of negative comments before the start, but what we saw during the race was great – Dariusz Batek said.

After a moment Halejak finished with a pain painted on his face.
