Łukasz Owsian made it into top 20 in Italian one-day, HC category race, GP Industria & Artigianato.
Info: March 4th, Larciano – Larciano, 199,2km
Course: flat first part and hilly four 27-kilometer laps in the second part
The race got off to a fast start. After few attempts 7-man group was established, but it didn’t include “riders in orange” (they started with just 6 riders, since Paweł Franczak had gotten sick before the event). The escapees opened up over 4-minute lead, but got caught quite early, with still around 40km to go. It was followed by an attack of Cesare Benedetti (Bora – Hansgrohe), who later was joined by Giovanni Visconti (Bahrain-Merida) and Davide Ballerini (Androni – Sidermec – Bottecchia).
They were brought back in on the final climbs, with 13km to go and that sparked new attacks from the “big guns”. Nothing stuck though and it only shattered the field to around 20 strongest men. Among them there was still Owsian.
The last descent saw the decisive move, when Matej Mohoric (Bahrain-Merida) broke clear and held on to the finish winning GP Industria & Artigianato. Marco Canola (Nippo – Vini Fantini – Europa Ovini), who also did very well in the downhill stretch, finished 2nd and Ballerini was the fastest from main, chasing group. Owsian came in with the same time, in 16th place.
