Davide Rebellin (CCC Polsat Polkowice) was the winner of 1st stage of the Grody Piast Trail. At the finish line in Dzierżoniów defeated club mate Marek Rutkiewicz and Bartosz Huzarski (NetApp-Endura).
The first stage 48 Grody Piast Trail Race started from the “royal” stage with the start and finish in Swidnica Dzierżoniów. The riders had to overcome the distance of 161.7 kilometers, which positioned along the route climbs up nine including five cat.1 (pass Walimska and Jugowska) and four No. 2 (pass Sokol, bears). An additional, and in fact the biggest obstacle for cyclists during today’s stage was the weather. From the very start, it rained incessantly, it was very foggy and the air temperature was around 8 degrees Celsius and the passes further decreased by a few degrees.
Right after the start, when the cycling peloton left the buildings Swidnica of the pack suddenly attacked by several riders. Among them was the cyclist CCC Polsat Polkowice, Bartlomiej Matysiak.
I rode almost the same tipsy pack – reports Bartek Matysiak. I saw that the group attacked Roger Kluge (NetApp Endura). Behind him, went next. Not a lot of thinking, I jumped behind them and after a while she was five of us. The peloton is not too eager to make our departure liquidate. With these conditions we started to work jointly. And so the innocent to escape the attack made that the minute was gaining the upper hand. I did not realize that almost most of the first stage will pass to escape.
