Grody Piastowskie: Taciak 2nd overall

Thanks to a perfect ride by the entire team, Mateusz Taciak moved up to 2nd place in the final general classification of Szlakiem Grodów Piastowskich. The “orange squad” also won the teams classification.

My teammates were amazing today. We were chasing down the breakaway with Tomasz Kiendyś, which may have seemed illogical, but that was the plan. When we caught them we had a chance to gain bonus seconds on the intermediate sprints. One second was enough to , but we managed to win it and take 3. The team did a great job before the sprint and Tomasz Kiendyś gave me a perfect lead-out, so nobody was able to pass me – Mateusz Taciak said afterwards. – Although I didn’t defend my title from last year I’m happy that we didn’t give up and despite flat stage we were able to made the GC podium.

The final stage in Legnica was the shortest one in the 4-day event. It was only 90km long and consisted of 12 round – 7,5km each. The profile was completely flat, but there was a lot of action going on in the peloton. Numerous groups pulled away and in two of them, Tomasz Kiendyś and Adrian Honkisz were present. The former was a part of the 5-man escape. He won first intermediate sprint and when got caught he was the lead-out man for Mateusz Taciak who was going for a victory on the second prime. Taciak won, taking maximum amount of bonus seconds, and moved to 2nd overall.

Adrian Honkisz was involved in a 3-man move, which established a 1:30 lead. CCC Sprandi Polkowice rider won the last intermediate sprint and tried to attack by himself, when the gap dropped to 20 seconds. Eventually he was reeled in and the stage ended with a bunch sprint. In the rainy finale Sylwester Janiszewski (Wibatech Fuji Żory) was the strongest, outsprinting Pascal Ackermann (Rad-Net Rose Team) and Paweł Franczak (ACtiveJet). “Riders in orange” didn’t take part in the sprinting game and arrived safely in the middle of the bunch. Adrian Kurek was the top finisher, in 13th.

Mateusz Taciak, who took 18th, completed the race in 2nd place overall, 7 seconds behind the winner, Paweł Bernas (ActiveJet). CCC Sprandi Polkowice proved to be the strongest group in the race, by claiming the win in the teams classification.
