Tomasz Kiendyś won the points classification in criterium in Legnica, which opened up CCC Tour Grody Piastowskie. Grzegorz Stępniak was second at the finish.
The initial strategy involved Bartłomiej Matysiak fighting for the points, but the way the race was played out early on changed that plan. I happened to collect few points and I got some advantage. We’d decided that I will try to maintain that lead all the way to the end. Unfortunately that effort influenced our lead out and Grzegorz Stępniak was not able to start the sprint from a perfect position. It was very important to take the last corner in the first place, but we didn’t manage to do that and eventually Grzegorz was edged out by Kankovsky – Tomasz Kiendyś, two-time Grody Piastowskie winner, said afterwards.
CCC Tour Grody Piastowskie kicked off as usual with a criterium in Legnica. It was 32 kilometers long and consisted of 20 laps, 1,6km each. Tomasz Kiendyś took the lead early and at halfway, he and Bartłomiej Matysiak were at the top of the chart. The “orange duo” managed to hold on to that lead and claimed a win.
The final three laps decided who will wear which leader jersey on tomorrow’s stage 1, from Chojnów to Złotoryja – the winners at each circuit was going to put on mountains, points and general classification leader jersey. CCC Sprandi Polkowice went all in for the last lap, to get the GC jersey, but in that battle Grzegorz Stępniak was defeated by Alois Kankovsky (Whirpool Author).
