Kurek missed out on stage success in Tour of Norway

Adrian Kurek was just few kilometers away from outpacing the peloton on stage 4 of Tour of Norway.

Info: Stage 4, May 20th, Lillestrøm – Sarpsborg, 192km

Course: undulating

How it unfolded

Adrian Kurek broke away soon after the start and was joined by Antonio Molina (Caja Rural), Dimitri Peyskens (Veranclassic), Ken-Levi Eikeland (Team and Nicolaj Steen (Team Veloconcept). Their early collaboration worked perfectly and were able to extend the lead to 11 minutes.

The peloton started the pursuit with 110km to go and as it later turned out they aimed the chase precisely. With every 10 kilometers the bunch would cut off 1 minute from the advantage of Kurek’s group. Despite huge effort from CCC Sprandi Polkowice rider, he was caught just 4 kilometers from the line. Together with Peyskens he was the last man to get reeled in by the shattered field.

Dylan Groenewegen (Team LottoNL-Jumbo) was the fastest from that company, beating Edvald Boasson Hagen (Dimension Data) and August Jensen (Team Coop). Michał Paluta finished 16th.

Pieter Weening (Roompot – Nederlandse Loterij) kept his leader jersey, Chile Jakub Kaczmarek sits in 25th overall (1:29 back).
