It was another tough day for CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders on the Belgian cobblestones. Adrian Kurek was the only rider to complete Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne and Mark Cavendish took the win.
Headwind in the initial part of racing was preventing establishing the breakaway. It took around 40 kilometers to form a 8-leading group with Mattia Pozzo (Nippo – Vini Fantini) Sjoerd van Ginneken (Team Roompot), Jimmy Engoulvent (Europcar), Xandro Meurisse (AN Post), Fredrik Backaert, Dimitri Peyskens (Team 3M), Eugert Zhupa (Southeast) and Thomas Vaubourzeix (Veranclassic – Ekoi). They worked togheter until around 60km to go and their maximum advantage was set at 3 minutes. After hard day at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, the riders of CCC Sprandi Polkowice missed out on getting into the leading group
When the peloton was getting close to the escapees few big favorites decided to accelerate. Among them was Tom Boonen, Mark Cavendish (both Etixx-Quick Step), Sep Vanmarcke (Team LottoNL-Jumbo), Alexander Kristoff (Katyusha) and Elia Viviani (Team Sky). They stretched their lead to 40 seconds and the bunch was chasing them down very hard. Eventually the groups came back together and the race started all over.
At this stage of racing there was one CCC Sprandi Polkowice rider in the peloton – Adrian Kurek.
Despite late attack from Philippe Gilbert (BMC Racing), the bunch sprint finalized the day. It was won by Cavendish, who outsprinted Kristoff and Viviani. Kurek finished 36th.
