Łukasz Bodnar – the winner of BGŻ ProLiga 2011

Łukasz Bodnar became on Saturday in Płock the winner of the final classification of the cycle of BGŻ ProLiga for the year of 2011. The cyclist of the CCC Polsat Polkowice group in the finish stretch of the classic for the Cup of the Minister of National Defence took the fourth place and he overtook in the BGŻ ProLiga classification the absent from the race Tomasz Marczyński.

The classic cycle race for the Cup of the Minister of National Defence ended with the victory of Tomasz Kiendyś (CCC Polsat Polkowice) before Radosław Romanik (Bank BGŻ) the Slovak cyclist Matej Jurco (Dukla Trencin).

The classic cycle race for the Cup of the Minister of National Defence was to give the answer to the question who would become the winner of the cycle of BGŻ ProLiga 2011. Out of the three cyclists who before the race had had a chance for the final success, at the starting line of the classic race only the vice-leader Łukasz Bodnar stood, who in order to overtake Tomasz Marczyński and become the winner of the cycle had to take at least the eighth place.

The decisive action of the classic race held along the laps around Płock took place about 40 kilometres before the finishing line, when three cyclists broke away from the peloton: Tomasz Kiendyś (CCC Polsat Polkowice), Radosław Romanik (Bank BGŻ) and the Slovak cyclist Matej Jurco (Dukla Trentin). In the final stretch Tomasz Kiendyś attacked on his own, and he became the winner of the race. In the battle for the second place Radosław Romanik turned out to be better than his competitor from Slovakia and he took the second place. At the head of the torn peloton Łukasz Bodnar crossed the finishing line, and the fourth place brought him the triumph in the final classification of BGŻ ProLiga for the year of 2011.

The cyclist, who lives in Chrząstawa Mała near Wrocław put on the jersey of the leader of BGŻ ProLiga as early as after the first race – Ślężański Mnich in Sobótka – and he gave it away only a week ago after the Memorial of Henryk Łasak to his team mate Tomasz Marczyński. The absence of the champion of Poland at the starting line, created an opportunity to regain the jersey, which was took advantage of by Łukasz Bodnar, and he became the winner of BGŻ ProLiga. The second place was won by Tomasz Marczyński, and the third – by Marek Rutkiewicz. The whole threesome represents the colours of the CCC Polsat Polkowice group.

The next places right behind the podium of BGŻ ProLiga were taken by cyclists from the group of BDC Marcin Sapa and Robert Radosz, the sixth place was taken by Tomasz Kiendyś (CCC Polsat Polkowice), seventh – Krzysztof Jeżowski (Bank BGŻ), eighth – Tomasz Smoleń (CCC Polsat Polkowice), ninth by last year’s triumpher – Jacek Morajko (CCC Polsat Polkowice) and the tenth by Paweł Cieślik (Bank BGŻ). 41 cyclists won points for the classification of BGŻ ProLiga in the season of 2011.
