CCC Sprandi Polkowice took back-to-back victory in GP Doliny Baryczy – Mem. Grundama i Wizowskiego, as Kamil Małecki won in Milicz.
Info: June 17th , Milicz – Milicz (10x16km), 160km
The race got off to a lively start with countless attacks and no breakaway for over first first hour. CCC Sprandi Polkowice were very aggressive early, making sure to be in every move up the road. Halfway through the race, finally an escape was formed and it was quite a strong group. It consisted of around 20 riders and among them were Paweł Franczak, Paweł Cieślik, Paweł Bernas, Kamil Małecki and Łukasz Owsian.
The gap would drop and then increase again and eventually they stayed clear until the finish. The final two laps saw multiple attacks and riders in orange didn’t skip any of them. Bernas, Owsian, Franczak and Małecki made it into the new 12-man group and in the end the youngster pulled away, alongside Marek Rutkiewicz.
They held on and Małecki tackled the last two 90-degree sharp turns, with only 200m to go, in first place to take a convincing win.
We were all launching attacks in the last lap, but mine stick, when I went with Rutkiewicz. I knew that it’s crucial to take the last zigzag in first position, so we both sprinted early, to the first corner. The road was quite slippery there, with some cobbles covered with a little bit of dust, so we had to slow down drastically and then push again in the flat stretch towards the finish. That victory means a lot to me, since we again rode perfectly as a team, and my more experienced teammates believed in me – Kamil Małecki said afterwards.
