Marczyński the second in stage 1 of MWG.

A member of the Belgian team of Sunweb-Revor, Tijmen Eising, became the winner of the 1st stage of Małopolski Wyścig Górski. He defeated Tomasz Marczyński (CCC Polsat Polkowice)and Paweł Cieślik (BGZTeam) in a sprinters’ duel at the Niepołomice Market Square.

The start in Miechów began the 49th edition of Małopolski Wyścig Górski. At the starting line there were 101 cyclists from Polish professional teams, and also from Belgium, Ukraine, Latvia, Russia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Bulgaria and Spain. During the first stage the cyclists had a distance of 132 kilometres to ride, from Miechów to Niepołomice. In the heat and sultry, stormy weather, with the temperature reaching 30 degrees Celsius, the cyclists struggled along the very difficult, hilly route, within which there was one climb and three intermediate stages.

Right after the start two cyclists of CCC Polsat Polkowice, Marek Rutkiewicz and Jacek Morajko attacked out of the peloton that had imposed a quick pace. They gained a dozen or so seconds of advantage over the peloton and they started on their own the uphill stretch for the climb situated at in the 17th kilometre of the route. Jacek Morajko won the climb and he took the leading in that classification.
The break-away of the two CCC cyclists did not last long, because the peloton, rushing downhill after the climb quickly caught up with the cyclists. They rode together only for a moment. Further attacks from the peloton, initiated among others by the cyclists from the teams of Sunweb and ISD, got quickly eliminated. When there were only 60 kilometres left before the finishing line in Niepołomice, six cyclists jumped out of the peloton, managing to gain advantage quite soon. In that group there were: Tomasz Marczyński (CCC Polsat Polkowice), Damian Walczak (BDC Team), Paweł Cieślik (BGZTeam), Tijmen Eising (Sunweb –Revor), Matej Jurčo (Dukla Trencin) and Alexander Foliforov (Katiusha). The cyclists worked out their advantage, at one time reaching almost 5 minutes, cooperating harmoniously. They settled the intermediated stages among themselves. Two of them were won by Tomasz Marczyński, who thus became the leader of the combativity classification of the race.

The closer to the finishing line, the more the peloton accelerated. In it the cyclists of ISD started to work hard on the chase. Their efforts turned to be in vain. The break-away reached the finishing line having 22 seconds of advantage, and the first one to cross the finishing line was the Dutch cyclist, Tijmen Eising, becoming the winner of the first stage of the race. At the finishing line he defeated the Polish cyclists Tomasz Marczyński and Paweł Cieślik.

In the general classification of the race the first place is held by the winner of the stage, Tijmen Eising, 1 second better than Tomasz Marczyński.
