Mariusz Witecki – the TdP expert about stage 1.

Mariusz Witecki (CCC Polsat Polkowice), as an expert on Tour de Pologne has commented on cyclists performance during the first, sprinters’ stage from Pruszków to Warszawa.

101.5 km short sprinters’ stage, where the scenario could be only one, that is an escape not allowed by the peloton to work out too big an advantage. Actually, from the start a six-person breakaway.

There were two Poles in it: ‘Matys’ Bartłomiej Matysiak and Adrian Kurek, who showed his best and as early as in the first stage proved that appointing him to the national team of Poland had been a good decision. After the first stage he has the combativity jersey and in the next ones he will surely be trying to get into breakaways, to increase his points collection.

It is a pity that the breakaway got eliminated right before the climb, because I hoped for ‘Matys’ to win it, but fortunately the climber’s jersey went to ‘Goły’ – Michał Gołaś, who was quicker than Przemek Niemiec.

It was a pleasure to watch Poles riding actively and fighting for the jerseys.

The field sprint, that is the stage, ended as it had been planned. Luckily there was no crash and the cyclist of Skill-Shimano achieved an unquestionable victory. Marcel Kittel’s team had had faith in him from the beginning and they worked hard for him during the whole stage, and they controlled the situation so that the whole group could arrive at the finishing line.

Greetings to everybody – ‘Witek’ Mariusz Witecki
