Bartłomiej Matysiak finished one day HC event, Rund um den Finanzplatz Eschborn-Frankfurt in 9th place. Alexander Kristoff (Katusha) took the win after a bunch sprint finish.
Rund um den Finanzplatz Eschborn-Frankfurt was 207 kilometers long. It included some climbing in the first half of competition, but due to flat finale it was expected that the race will finish with a bunch gallop. At least that was the case in the previous years.
It took a long time to form a breakaway of the day, as it was established after nearly 50 kilometers of racing. First more significant move included 14 riders and Tomasz Kiendyś was among them. Unfortunately that group didn’t stick and later they were replaced by another 7-man escape. Matvey Mamykin (Katusha), Bjorn Thurau (Wanty – Groupe Gobert), Antonio Nibali (Nippo – Vini Fantini), Daniel Felipe Martinez (Wilier – Southeast), Quentin Jauregui (AG2R La Mondiale), Reinier Honig (Roompot – Oranje Peloton) and Niki Terpstra (Etixx-Quick Step), who joined them a little bit later, were part of that action.
The peloton was making sure that they never get too much space. 2 minutes of advantage was the most that the escapees were given and they got caught with 60km to go. Later numerous riders tried their chances in the attacks, but none of the attempts was successful. One of the attackers was CCC Sprandi Polkowice representative, Łukasz Owsian.
The slightly shredded peloton entered the final kilometers, as “riders in orange” were setting the pace with 8-9 kilometers remaining. In the very finale it was Katusha, who led out their sprinter perfectly. Alexander Kristoff grabbed a well deserved win, besting Maximiliano Richeze (Etixx – Quick Step) and Sam Bennett (Bora-Argon 18).
Bartłomiej Matysiak repeated his performance from two years ago and again finished in 9th place.
