Thanks to brave move on the final stage and successful battle at intermediate sprints, Kamil Małecki secured the win in youth classification of Mazovia Tour.
Info: stage 4, 29th of July, Kozienice – Kozienice, 165km
Mazovia Tour seems to have its own pattern this year, with exceptionally fast beginnings. The breakaway on the last stage went clear as late as with 75km into the stage. Kamil Małecki was part of the group, with Michał Podlaski (Voster), Adrian Karpiuk (Mayday Team Ziemia Lubelska) and Tobias Magdeburg (Ked-Stevens Radetteam Berlin).
Since the riders were almost halfway through the stage when they finally got a “green light”, the peloton was keeping the gap under 1:30. Małecki took full advantage of the fact, that he was riding in the front, winning two intermediate sprints and collecting 6 bonus seconds. That helped him move up to 6th overall and 1st in youth classification.
The youngster and Podlaski were the last men standing and were brought back in with 22km to go. Sprinters’ teams controlled the race from that point all the way to the finish and the winner of the final stage came from the bunch sprint. Alois Kankovsky (Elkov Author) not only notched the stage win but he also claimed victory in general classification. At the line he bested Emils Liepins (Rietumu Banka Riga) and in GC, Grzegorz Stępniak (Wibatech 7r Fuji).
Jakub Kaczmarek came in in 19th place, while Kamil Małecki finished the 5-day event in 6th place and with the white jersey.
