Two CCC Sprandi Polkowice youngsters, Szymon Sajnok and Alan Banaszek, finished Memorial Romana Siemińskiego (1.2) on the podium.
Info: May 2nd, Raciąż- Raciąż, 162,9km
Course: flat, windy (18,1km lap x 9)
Breakaway of the day was established quite early, on the first, 18-kilometer lap around Raciąż. Adrian Kurek made it into that group, as well as 6 other riders. They gained nearly 4 minutes on the bunch, but teams which didn’t have their man in the front, decided to pick up the pace and chase the escape down.
They played cat and mouse with the attackers bringing the gap down to 40 seconds and letting them gain one minute on the next lap. Eventually the breakaway got caught on penultimate lap and it was all decided in a mass sprint.
It was a tricky and technical finish, with two sharp bends within final 500m. Alan Banaszek and Szymon Sajnok tackled the last corner in top 3, but Alois Kankovsky (Elkov-Author) was up there too. Thanks to his flair and experience he was able to outsprint two CCC Sprandi Polkowice youngsters to take back to back victory, after winning Memoriał Andrzeja Trochanowskiego.
I haven’t raced too often against Alois, so I’m still figuring him out – Sajnok explained. – The plan was to take the final corner in first and second position, but Czech sprinter is very smart rider in such finales and got in between us. Even though we got two spots on the podium we are disappointed, since we always aim at victory.
