Davide Rebellin will lead the „orange squad” in the upcoming stage event, Tour of Małopolska. It kicks off on June 10th and will be preceded by criterium – “Gold Ring of Cracow”.
The experienced Italian maintains a solid form throughout the entire season and will be one of the GC favorites. He is not the only CCC Sprandi Polkowice rider who should be mentioned as a top contender though. Adrian Honksz and Łukasz Owsian have both claimed good results at CCC Tour Grody Piastowskie and Visegrad V4 Race – GP Poland, while Mateusz Taciak won Bałtyk – Karkonosze Tour. The roster will also include Leszek Pluciński and Marcin Mrożek
The opening of Tour of Małopolska will take place in Cracow, during the “Gold Ring of Cracow” criterium. This year it will have an unusual format. First the riders will face a typical criterium. It will determine which 12 riders move on to the final – elimination race. Whoever is last on every lap (10) is knocked out. The results will not be included in the overall standings, but lining up at the start is obligatory to take part in the 3-day race.
Stage 1 will take the riders from Trzebinia to Alwernia and is 131 kilometers long. The course is undulating and features 4 KOMs. 3 of them are located at the top of Złota Góra (last KOM is 20km from the line). A punchy finish to the main square in Alwernia, will make things hard for the sprinters.
On the next day the peloton will travel to the higher parts of the country, to Podhale. It’s the most likely that this is where the overall winner will be selected, since there are 5 KOMs on the menu. They should shatter the field and the stage should end with a small group arriving at the finish in Nowy Targ.
The race will be wrapped by a stage from Chochołowskie Termy to Stary Sącz. There are also 5 categorized climbs, but they all are located in the first part of the route. The final 40 kilometers is mostly downhill and that should favor a bunch sprint
