Owsian wins GP Doliny Baryczy

After entire day in the breakaway, Łukasz Owsian won Grand Prix Doliny Baryczy – Mem. Grundmana i Wizowskiego, by sprinting to the win from 3-man group.

Info: June 16th , Żmigród – Żmigród (9x18km), 162km

Course: undulating

Łukasz Owsian was very aggressive right from the gun. He was part of an early move, which included some of the race favorites. Patryk Stosz and Paweł Franczak were also in that 9-man escape, but eventually it didn’t stick.

Another breakaway, which Owsian was also part of, was more lucky, as 7 riders gained nearly 3-minutes on the bunch. On the penultimate lap the leading group split and only 3 attackers stayed up the road – Owsian, together with Mateusz Komar and Marek Rutkiewicz.

They held on and the race was decided in a 3-man sprint. Owsian defeated his rivals to take the win.

In such races it’s important to ride aggressively and to have a man in the breakaway. After handful of attacks I was able to go clear. There were few fast guys in the front, who would have been very dangerous in the finale, so we decided that we need to break that group apart. I entered the final lap only with Marek Rutkiewicz and Mateusz Komar and we agreed that we all work evenly, so we don’t get caught.

Marek kicked off sprint first and I tackled the last corner in third place. His chain slipped though, so it was down to me and Komar to fight for the win. I was on his wheel and I was able to overtake him just before the finish line to get the victory. I must admit that I’m quite surprise with the outcome, since my opponents are in theory faster in the sprint.

Paweł Franczak also claimed top 5 spot, as he led the bunch across the line to take 4th place.
