Maciej Paterski finished the Italian HC event, Gran Premio Bruno Beghelli in the top 20, arriving with the strongest group.
Gran Premio Bruno Beghelli kicked off in Trasferimento and ended after 196km of racing in Monteveglio. Last 135 kilometers consisted of 10 laps, 13,3km each, with one short ascent. The finale was flat, so the course suited sprinters with some climbing abilities.
The escape of the day broke clear early and included Christian Eiking (FDJ), Yuma Koishi (Nippo-Vini Fantini), Diego Rubio (Caja Rural – Seguros RGA), Alberto Nardin (Androni-Sidermec), Artur Ershov (Gazprom – Rusvelo), Thierry Hupond (Delko Marseille Provence KTM) and Andrea Ruscetta (GM Europa Ovini).
Their maximum gap exceeded 5 minutes at some point but eventually the last escapee got caught with 30km remaining.
Fast pace in the peloton on the final laps whittled down the pack to only around 40 riders. Maciej Paterski and Łukasz Owsian managed to stay with the strongest and the former finished the race in 19th place.
Nicola Ruffoni (Bardiani – CSF) claimed the win, beating Filippo Pozzato (Wilier – Southeast) and Jens Keukeleire (Orica-BikeExchange).
