Paterski, Owsian in the breakaway, Bole in Top 10

Maciej Paterski and Grega Bole made the highlights of the third race of Challenge Mallorca – Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana. The former was a part of a breakaway of the day and the latter finished 7th.

It was a very hard race not only because of hard climbing but also because of the crashes that occurred throughout the day. That’s why I didn’t take too much risk on the descents – Grega Bole said. – In the final part I was in the chasing group behind Valverde, but it wasn’t very well organized. I began the sprint a little bit too late but I’m still satisfied with the result. I’m also happy for my teammates – Maciej Paterski and Lukasz Owsian who were very active today.

After such a long break from racing you never know where are you in terms of your form. Races in Mallorca are good indication that my preparation is going the right way.

My first goal of the season is Milan – Sanremo and I have to use every race to improve my condition for La Primavera.

Just like the day before, the pace at the beginning of the race was extremely high. No one was able to break clear until 50km into the race. This is when 26-man group with Maciej Paterski and Lukasz Owsian got away. At one point they had 2:30 lead but it was reduced to only 1 minute by the Team Sky, who was leading the chase.

Paterski decided to attack with Louis Vervaecke (Lotto Soudal) and was first on the top of Coll d’Honor. He was reeled in few minutes later by the 10-man chasing group with Alejandro Valverde, Merhawi Kudus, Linus Gerdemann and Fabian Wegmann, who also made the initial breakaway.

Valverde and Kudus took off and later on the Spaniard went solo, gaining over 2 minute advantage over the chasers, including Grega Bole. He maintained his lead until the finish line and claimed the win. Bole sprinted for 7th place and achieved first Top 10 place in the orange colors. Despite riding in the breakaway for most of the day Paterski managed to finish in 14th. Łukasz Owsian was 29th and only 46 riders completed the race.

It was definitely the hardest race of the Challenge Mallorca, but I felt very good today – Maciej Paterski said. I think that I’m stronger then I was last year at the same time. I got into the breakaway and when the peleton was getting close I decided to make a move. I wanted to have some advantage before the final climb, but I got caught and I couldn’t stay with the group. I got dropped 2km before the top of the last hill. After such a long ride in the front it was very hard to keep up the pace.
