Leszek Pluciński finished 5th overall in 6-stage race, Bałtyk – Karkonosze Tour.
Info: Stage 5, May 21st, Kowary – Przełęcz Okraj, 11,6km (ITT)/Stage 6, May 21st, Piechowice – Karpacz, 89,3km
Course: uphill (avg. 5%, max. 13%)/hilly (4 KOMs, punchy finish)
Riders of the “orange squad” won previous two time trials to Przełęcz Okraj, but this time their run was cut off. Surprisingly the victory was taken by just 18-year old Astana City rider, Vadim Pronskiy. He was 8 seconds faster than 2nd Marek Rutkiewicz (Wibatech 7r Fuji), who took over the overall lead and 18 seconds faster than Adam Stachowiak (Voster), who got third.
Leszek Pluciński just missed out on the podium, setting 4th best time (39 seconds back). Mateusz Taciak, who won Bałtyk-Karkonosze Tour twice and multiple times claimed the uphill race against the clock, finished 9th(1:26).
Due to hard course and short distance, the afternoon hilly stage saw lots of action. Composition of the leading group would change constantly and after series of accelerations three riders took the lead – Paweł Bernas (Domin), Grigoriy Shtein (Astana City) and Vladyslav Soltasiuk (Kolss). They managed to hold off the chasers and arrive at the line with around one minute gap. Shtein won the uphill sprint to win the stage, ahead of Bernas and Soltasiuk.
Leszek Pluciński finished 8th, coming in with the rest of GC contenders. Among them was Marek Rutkiewicz, who secured overall victory. Pluciński claimed 5th.
