After 9th place on the opening stage of Tour des Fjords taken by Jonas Koch, Leszek Pluciński claimed another top 10 spot for CCC Sprandi Polkowice, finishing in 7th on stage 2.
Info: Stage 2, May 25th, Gulen – Norheimsund, 185,1km
Weather: Chilly, rainy
Course: undulating (three categorized climbs)
Nobody could break clear in the first 50km of racing, as the pace in the pack stretched out the field. Finally after nearly 2 hours since the start, three man group with Sondre Kristiansen (Uno-X), Jonathan Lastra (Caja Rural) and Rasmus Bogh Wallin (ColoQuick CULT) emerged in the front and gained 2,5 minutes on the bunch.
Peloton didn’t want to make the same mistake as yesterday, when escape survived until the finish, and controlled the gap. They caught breakaway early, with around 60km to go. At that point the group was splintered, as drastic selection was made by strong pace in the pack and rain, which made roads slippery and dangerous.
Next move came from Timo Roosen (Team LottoNL-Jumbo), who went away solo and established 40-second advantage. Chasing group, which was reduced to 16 riders and included Leszek Pluciński, tried to close the gap, but that pursuit turned out to be unsuccessful. Belgian managed to hold on and take the win, coming in 2 seconds ahead of small peloton, led by Edvin Boasson Hagen (Dimension Data) who claimed 2nd place. August Jensen (Team Coop) rounded out the podium.
Leszek Pluciński sprinted to 7th place and now sits in 11th in general classification, 40 seconds behind the leader, Dries Van Gestel (Sport Vlaanderen – Baloise).
